TCPS Solutions

The review of the barriers to clinical education of healthcare students fall into three major areas: the clinical agreement between the school & facility, the actual clinical placement process of matching the student(s) to appropriate learning opportunities within healthcare facilities, and the related orientation of students. While clinical affiliation agreements will differ from organization to organization, TCPS offers solutions to the components that can be standardized: the clinical placement process and orientation barriers.

Online Clinical Placement System

The process of placing students in the clinical setting was identified as a pivotal component of overcoming the barriers to knowledge about open placements. StudentMax & the Oregon Center for NursingAfter a review of existing systems in practice today, rather than re-inventing a database for this purpose, our solution is to collaborate with the Oregon Center for Nursing to use and support their StudentMax® clinical placement online database system. Additional information regarding the StudentMax solution is available by contacting TCPS or through the StudentMax® website.

TCPS recommends that clinical facilities identify ALL potential placements - those routinely filled by schools with long standing relationship, and also those potential placements that could be going unused simply because schools do not know they exist.Click to Learn More!Just close the new window to return to TCPS!

TCPS Solution

Online Orientation for Clinical Facilities

TCPS leverages online technology as a solution for overcoming the redundant content and orientation presentations by providing students and faculty access to orientation content. The online environment offers flexibility to allow students to review information while minimizing the time students spend in the classroom at a clinical facility. With a goal to increase "time at the bedside" for students, the General Orientation solution allows students and faculty to complete the orientation materials at a time that is convenient for them! Based upon the standardized format, students and faculty only complete this general content once per academic year - not with every assignment to a different clinical facility several times each term.

The online General Orientation content is driven by the regulatory educational requirements that healthcare facilities must provide for all care providers. The content is divided into 5 modules: Safey, Infection Control & Blood Borne Pathogens, Confidentiality & Compliance Issues, Emergency Preparedness, & Dealing with Diversity in Healthcare. All healthcare students complete this basic content while nursing students also participate in an interactive activity that promotes problem solving and critical thinking as they apply the related orientation content in a safe environment. Student completion information is stored in an online learning management system that can be monitored by educators needing to track student completion.Click to Learn More!
